Fifty-six years later, we must look to the example of Dr. King’s vision for international peace. Because let’s be clear: A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.

And so we must continue to work together to create an environment for nuclear disarmament. We must continue to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons in every corner of the world. And for those of us that already have those weapons, we must continue to pursue arms control. The United States is willing to engage in bilateral arms control discussions with Russia and China, right now, without preconditions. All they have to do is come to the table in good faith.
