Today the World Trade Organization (WTO) panel released its findings in the Steel Products dispute between China and Australia.
China initiated proceedings at the WTO against Australia in June 2021 concerning duties on wind towers, stainless steel sinks and railway wheels imported from China to Australia.
The Panel found some technical issues with how Australia’s Anti-Dumping Commission calculated the duties originally imposed on these three products in 2014, 2015 and 2019 respectively.
Consistent with Australia’s support for the rules-based trading system, the Australian Government accepts the ruling of the WTO panel. Australia will engage with China and take steps to implement the panel’s findings.
The report does not diminish the integrity of Australia’s trade remedies system. Our system is evidence-based and non-discriminatory and will continue to respond effectively to unfair trade practices.
Australia remains committed to a fully-functioning WTO dispute settlement system so that the rights and obligations of all WTO members can be enforced.
