The U.S. and Japan will sign a new security agreement next month, the Financial Times first reported, marking the first time the two nations have restructured their alliance since 1960 as tensions rise between China and Taiwan, and North Korea continues military exercises and missile tests in waters bordering Japan and South Korea.

President Joe Biden and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida plan to announce the new agreement while the Japanese leader visits the White House for a state dinner on April 10, according to the report.
