On March 13, Ambassador Kenji Kanasugi visited the China-Japan Friendship Environmental Protection Center and met with Director Chen Ming of the center.
Director Chen Ming extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Kanasugi for his first visit after taking office and introduced the work of the center. He also made suggestions on specifically promoting Japan-China environmental cooperation through the center. During the meeting, Director Chen expressed his gratitude to Japan for its long-term cooperation.
Ambassador Kanasugi expressed his gratitude to the Center for its warm welcome and spoke highly of its contribution to Japan-China relations. Ambassador Kanasugi said that taking into account the consensus reached at the Japan-China summit meeting in November last year and the previous exchanges with Minister Huang Runqiu of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, Japan and China will learn from each other based on the results of cooperation so far, and jointly Cooperation in addressing issues in the environmental field is important, and we expect the center to play its central role.
Both sides agreed to achieve greater progress in Japan-China environmental cooperation and will work closely together in the future to promote cooperation including the implementation of two-way exchanges between Japanese and Chinese youth in the environmental field.
After the meeting, Ambassador Kanasugi visited the China-Japan Environmental Cooperation Reference Room and other related facilities in the center.
(Note) The China-Japan Friendship Environmental Protection Center was established in 1988 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between China and Japan. It was established through consultation between Japan and China. The Japanese government provided free assistance funds (a total of approximately 10.5 billion yen) for construction. It was completed and put into operation in 1996. The two sides have used the center as a platform to carry out Japan-China environmental cooperation in a wide range of fields.

金杉大使视察中日友好环境保护中心(2024年3月13日)
3月13日,金杉宪治大使前往中日友好环境保护中心视察并会晤该中心陈明主任。
陈明主任对金杉大使履新后的首次来访表示热烈欢迎并介绍了该中心的工作开展情况,还就通过该中心具体推进日中环境合作提出了建议。会晤中,陈主任对日方长期以来所给予的合作表示感谢。
金杉大使对中心的热情欢迎表示感谢并高度评价该中心对日中关系做出的贡献。金杉大使表示,念及去年11月日中两国首脑会谈达成的共识以及此前与生态环境部黄润秋部长的交流内容,日中双方在今后的工作中以迄今的合作成果为基础相互学习借鉴,共同合作应对环境领域的课题很为重要,期待该中心发挥其核心作用。
双方一致同意为日中环境合作取得更大进展,今后也将紧密协同,推进包括落实环境领域日中青年双向交流在内的合作。
会晤后,金杉大使参观了该中心内的中日环境合作资料室等相关设施。
(注)中日友好环境保护中心是1988年为纪念日中和平友好条约缔结10周年,经日中双方协商确定设立,由日本政府提供无偿援助资金(合计约105亿日元)进行建设,于1996年落成并投入运行。双方以该中心为平台在广泛的领域中开展了日中环境合作。
