On 6 December 2023, Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), the Japan-Taiwan Exchange Association (JTEA), and the Australian Office (AO) held the ninth Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF) Joint Committee meeting.  In the meeting, the GCTF full partners reviewed this year’s GCTF activities and exchanged views on priority areas of cooperation in 2024.

The GCTF has served as a platform to enable Taiwan to engage with likeminded partners to jointly address global challenges and share expertise around the world. Since the GCTF was founded on 1 June 2015, we have organized 70 international workshops with a total of over 7,500 participating government officials and experts from over 127 countries.

We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments made by Taiwan, the United States, Japan, and Australia this year.  In 2023, we successfully held seven GCTF events, which featured an array of co-host partners including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Saint Lucia. The wide range of topics addressed a variety of global issues, including anti-corruption, sustainable aviation, humanitarian response, sustainable development, maritime disasters measures, and human rights in the digital age.

In addition, the GCTF franchise model this year included eight separate events in Malaysia, Saint Vincent, Italy, Palau, Belgium, Saint Lucia, Belize and India, on the topics of digital economy, vocational training for developing states, countering disinformation, media literacy, gender equality, and cybersecurity.

Next year, we plan to continue deepening and increasing the scope of GCTF cooperation. We plan to hold workshops on topics spanning sustainable development, combating transnational fraud, cybersecurity and telecom infrastructure, resilience building, net-zero economy and clean energy, and climate change in the ocean. We will also expand GCTF franchise events. We welcome partners to join us in the GCTF program for 2024.
